Green Wheels, the Trails Trust, and the City of Eureka partnered to improve
trails through Cooper Gulch and, by doing so, connect neighborhoods bordering
the park. In July, volunteers for several organizations successfully
completed the first stretch of trail through the east side of the park
to the 13th Street neighborhood.
In conjunction with United Way’s Day of Caring, in September, a
second volunteer trail day improved another trail segment to P Street.
A BIG “Thank You” to all the volunteers, businesses, and
users who participated and donated!
These trail segments serve as a valuable connection for neighborhoods
and commuters. The project was also a pilot community project model that
can be replicated in other neighborhoods in Eureka. Is there an informal
connector trail in your neighborhood that needs improvement? If so, contact
the Trails Trust at info@trailstrust.org and
we will connect you with city staff and a trail project book to help
you with Step 1.
In closing, this project was spearheaded by Kevin Wright with Green
Wheels. His enthusiasm and persistence was crucial to making
this idea a reality. Thank you, Kevin, for the many, many hours
and positive energy put into the projects!
